SLSHOP, the world’s leading Mercedes-Benz SL company specialising in the preservation of iconic Mercedes models through expert craftsmanship, has announced its plans to lead the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Mercedes W113 Pagoda over the course of 2023.
Following the company’s internationally recognised #SLSHOP50 events that took place in 2021 to mark 50 years of the R107 SL, SLSHOP continues to be at the forefront of the marque’s heritage, standing by owners and enthusiasts to give them uninhibited access to their model knowledge, unrivalled craftsmanship and passion for enjoying the open road.
The Mercedes-Benz W113, nicknamed the ‘Pagoda’ redefined the meaning of luxury, creating a new benchmark for reliable and comfortable sports cars. Occupying the hearts and minds of the 1960s elite, the ‘Pagoda’ continues to be owned and enjoyed by a whole host of high-profile individuals from Hollywood celebrities to Musicians.
Now, with the model turning 60 years old, SLSHOP’s sales and service ‘Pagoda’ database is set to hit 60% of all UK road-registered vehicles, with over 8,000 Pagodas around the globe now fitted with an SLSHOP-supplied component. The company also reports that in 2022, 40% of all parts sold were for the ‘Mercedes Pagoda’.
To celebrate the owners and enthusiasts who continue to preserve and enjoy their classic Mercedes, SLSHOP will offer three unique events throughout 2023. Starting in the spring, and to coincide with the launch of the 230SL, SLSHOP will open their doors for a 60th celebratory evening showcasing recent restorations as well as rare ‘halo’ Pagodas. This will be followed by a tour of the Cotswolds and a Pagoda & Pints meet at the local car hub, Caffeine & Machine.
The summer will see the company host over 60 ‘Pagodas’ at their Warwickshire head office, before driving down in convoy to Mercedes-Benz World, Surrey to perform their customary semi-circle of SLs.
• SLSHOP events include Spring Pagoda evening, Summer Pagoda Pilgrimage to Mercedes-Benz World and Autumn Pagoda Open Day, as well as several mini meets • Company reveals its database of Mercedes Pagodas is due to hit 60% of all UK road-registered vehicles • Over 8,000 Mercedes Pagodas around the world are fitted with an SLSHOP component • Company’s showroom to be Pagoda themed for the duration of 2023
In the autumn, the company’s doors will open for a Pagoda-themed day, allowing enthusiasts and collectors access to SLSHOP’s Heritage craftsmen for technical guidance and support. This event will also see the company’s Pagoda SportLine restomods revealed to the public for the first time.
Throughout the year, the company’s world-renowned showroom will be Pagoda-themed, and the company will also release a series of videos with key influential petrolheads to further celebrate the importance of the model.
SLSHOP Founder and MD, Sam Bailey, comments: ‘’We live and breathe these vehicles and the 60th anniversary is a chance to celebrate those owners and enthusiasts, who like us, dedicate their time to preserving and enjoying these vehicles.
With the earliest variants now 60 years old, it has never been more important to remind the world that these cultural and engineering icons are being preserved by and with the help of, sixty passionate individuals based in the heart of Warwickshire. This milestone is the start of another chapter for the Mercedes Pagoda, which SLSHOP will continue to preserve for another 60 years.’’
